Drag Night, concerts and Pride Parade -Copenhagen Pride unveils parts of this year’s program!

From 10 to 18 August, Copenhagen Pride will once again bring rainbow flags, diversity and buzzing life to the city’s streets. City Hall Square will be transformed into Pride Square with events and DJs every night, the iconic Drag Night returns and, true to tradition, the highlight of the week, the Pride Parade, will march through the city on Saturday 17 August. Today, parts of this year’s programme are announced. The full programme for Copenhagen Pride 2024 will be announced on Monday 22 July.

Copenhagen will be enveloped in colour when Copenhagen Pride returns with a programme that encompasses, frames and embraces a wide audience. Today, Copenhagen Pride is delighted to unveil several parts of the programme, while the full programme will be announced on 22 July.

Chairperson of Copenhagen Pride, Benjamin Hansen, says:

“We are incredibly excited to present the first parts of the programme for Copenhagen Pride 2024. This year’s programme offers a wide range of activities ranging from inspiring debates, Family Pride to musical performances and of course our iconic Parade. Our amazing volunteers have worked hard to ensure there is something for everyone and we look forward to celebrating diversity, love and community – this remains important at a time when hate crimes and discrimination are still taking place and anti-LGBTI rhetoric is on the rise. Copenhagen Pride 2024 will be a celebration of all of us that you won’t want to miss!”

Pride Square: the beating heart of Pride

City Hall Square will be transformed into Pride Square, which will be open every day from Saturday 10 to Saturday 17 August with activities every evening.

The opening Saturday (10 August) is a community and anniversary celebration for SLM (50 years), Pan Idræt (40 years), Tegnbuen (40 years) and the entire Pride community. Sunday to Tuesday evenings, the programme will be curated by Pride’s Culture Team and will include concerts, performance art, a trans fashion show, dance workshops and contemporary performing arts from KLANG. On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, the programme will be put together by Pride’s Youth Team, with Dejah Makar, Marek Azoulay and Sedric Perry, among others, guaranteeing a party on stage.

On Friday night, Copenhagen Pride’s iconic Drag Night returns, and on Saturday night, the big Pride show will take place – this year with KIKI CLUB & Ida Corr as a headliner. There will also be Oslo Faggotkor and other Danish and international artists to be announced soon.

Pride Square will once again have a community tent where LGBTI+ organisations can host events and meet the community. There will also be a debate tent that will host more than 30 human rights debates between activists, politicians etc. participating from all over the world. Other community activities include a photo exhibition and much more.

Pride Week highlight: Pride Parade

The legendary Pride Parade will take place this year on Saturday 17 August. For the second year in a row, the vehicles in the parade will be all-electric and, in keeping with tradition, organisations celebrating an anniversary will lead the way. This year, 30,000 people are expected to march from Frederiksberg City Hall to Pride Square.

Applications for the parade from organisations, community groups and Pride partners are being accepted until tomorrow, Thursday 20 June 2024. Click here for more information and to apply.

We continue with Pride

With this year’s theme #withPride, Copenhagen Pride emphasises the continued need for LGBTI+ people to use Pride as an opportunity to strengthen community at a time when anti-LGBTI+ rhetoric and hate crimes are on the rise around the world. New research shows that almost half of all LGBTI+ people in Denmark have experienced discrimination in the past year.

The community has participated in this year’s #withPride campaign, which will be shown on Clear Channel screens all over Denmark, on Copenhagen Pride’s social media and around Pride Square. Here, people from the community share what they do with Pride / #withPride.

The full programme for Copenhagen Pride 2024 will be announced on Monday 22 July.

The wristband will soon go on sale at 7-Eleven across Denmark, at Flying Tiger and Lagkagehuset stores in Copenhagen and on the Copenhagen Pride website.
