After a total of 134 events over eight days Copenhagen Pride 2024 has concluded with many tens of thousands of participants showing that they stand #withPride.
Eight nights of entertainment on Rådhuspladsen included 50 artists and performers culminating in Drag Night on Friday and the closing concert with SABA, Kiki Club & Ida Corr, and a showcase of Queer Music Agency artists. Other events on the stage included dance workshops, sing-along, a Literary Saloon and a discussion with Pride organisers from elsewhere in Denmark. The program was accessed more than 95,000 times in the official Copenhagen Pride app.
The Human Rights Program considered topics such as legal gender recognition, bi visibility, Prides under attack, LGBTI+ people in Morocco, sexual health, and disability. Activists from Lebanon, Moldova, Latvia and Guyana, among others, joined the program and Medecins sans Frontieres displayed a photo exhibition ‘Where Love Is Illegal’.
The Parade on Saturday 17 August was led by SLM København, Pan Idræt and Tegnbuen in honour of their anniversaries, and included more than 80 groups including community groups and partners of Copenhagen Pride. Pride and police estimate the crowd to be the size of 2023.
The closing concert, addressed by Lord Mayor of Copenhagen Sophie Hæstorp Andersen and Mayor of Culture and Leisure Mia Nygaard, also heard from an 85 year-old veteran of the Stonewall Uprising in 1969, who told the crowd that every Pride is still a protest as well as a party and we must continue our fight for true equality for all LGBTI+ people.
Support from 36 commercial and community partners contributed towards the costs of the event, ensuring that all Copenhagen Pride events were free to attend. Partners of Pride also engage in activities throughout the year, often including work with Copenhagen Pride to support diversity and inclusion in their workplaces.
Four hundred volunteers covered 790 shifts, an increase in volunteer activity on 2023. Pride’s safety team, working with police, ensured the event was safe with no serious incidents or disruptions.
Planning now begins for Winter Pride 2025 which takes place from 17-23 February, and Copenhagen Pride week from 9-17 August 2025, with the Parade on 16 August.
