Full program announced for Copenhagen Pride 2024

Today, Copenhagen Pride announces the final programme with more than 100 free events and one of the most diverse programmes from 10-18 August 2024. The iconic Parade will take place on Saturday 17 August, and the programme includes everything from live music, a queer flea market and a photo exhibition to young queer talent and human rights defenders from Denmark and abroad.

From 10 to 18 August, Copenhagen will once again be filled with the colours of the rainbow when Copenhagen Pride takes place. Under the theme ‘with Pride’, which emphasises the importance of working with Pride to achieve change for LGBTI+ people in Denmark and abroad, the programme includes events in art, culture, human rights, sports, drag, live music and – for the first time – a ‘big queer flea market’.

Benjamin Hansen (he/him), chairperson of Copenhagen Pride, says:

“I’m very proud of the programme that our talented and hard-working volunteers have put together this year. We have more than 100 events, all of which are free to attend and offer something for everyone in the LGBTI+ community. It’s one of the most diverse Copenhagen Pride programmes we’ve ever seen, and it shows the momentum we’re building with Pride.”

Live entertainment at Pride Square

City Hall Square will once again be transformed into ‘Pride Square’ from 10 to 17 August, with the opening Saturday featuring community singing, community dancing, live music and a big celebration of organisations with anniversaries, celebrating each other and the entire community. On Sunday there will be a big queer flea market for the first time, and at the beginning of the week the square will host a literary salon, DJs, dance workshops and more live music.

Young queer talent from Denmark and abroad will be on the programme on Wednesday and Thursday, including Sedric Perry, Nao Mali, Dejah Makar and renowned British artist JayJay Revlon. Drag Night returns on Friday to get the adrenaline pumping before the parade and warm up for the closing show on Saturday, headlined by Ida Corr and Kiki Club.

LGBTI+ human rights at the centre

The Human Rights Programme brings together activists and human rights defenders from Armenia, Georgia, Morocco, Lebanon, Moldova and Latvia with contributions from visiting activists from Ghana and Guyana, several of whom will meet with the Danish government during their stay in Copenhagen.

Topics in the human rights programme include disability, bisexuality, masculinity and hate speech. Complex issues such as recognising LGBTI+ identities in Islamic countries and queer identities in conflict zones will also be addressed. For five days, Medecins Sans Frontieres will exhibit the photo exhibition ‘Where Love Is Illegal’ at Pride Square.

Children’s Pride, a space for rainbow families in the tranquil surroundings of City Hall Gardens, is open for several days with a range of activities for children and families.

Partners supporting Pride and the parade

One of the highlights of the week will once again be the Copenhagen Pride Parade on Saturday 17 August, when tens of thousands of people will march from Frederiksberg City Hall to Copenhagen City Hall.

“We are very grateful to the more than 30 commercial partners who have stood with Pride this year to show that their commitment to our community is unwavering. Without these partners, we simply wouldn’t be able to run the Parade and all of our events, and they would miss out on the value we feel we bring to them as workplaces and employers,” says Benjamin Hansen.

Employees from companies that have decided to end their partnership with Copenhagen Pride this year are also invited to sign up for the “employees who still march with Pride” group in the Parade.

It has also become a tradition for the Parade to be led by organisations celebrating anniversaries, and this year it is led by SLM Copenhagen, celebrating 50 years, and Pan Idræt and Tegnbuen, both celebrating 40 years.

Hundreds of volunteers will once again be at the heart of Copenhagen Pride, contributing thousands of hours in a variety of roles, including bartending, helping backstage, cleaning and assisting the audience.

Pride throughout the city

There are plenty of other events during Copenhagen Pride week, including events at UN City, Museum of Copenhagen, Glyptoteket, Enghave Church, Folkekirken, Designmuseum Danmark and LGBTI+ themed events such as Drag Rugby and canal tours with a drag host.
