Wanted: Head of Pride Art

Copenhagen Pride is Denmark’s largest, most colourful and diverse human rights event and has been bringing the fight for equality and diversity to the streets of Frederiksberg and Copenhagen for more than 25 years.

After two successful years with our art space, we are now looking for a Pride Art Area Manager to lead the Pride Art project in the coming years. As the leading contact person between Copenhagen Pride and Denmark’s Queer art community, we are looking for someone who has a strong interest in, and perhaps even experience with, the art world and a commitment to increasing the visibility of LGBTI+ art.

Pride Art is a platform and learning space where art, artists, and the public meet in a dialogue about identity, gender and sexuality based on art. The exhibition space can be the setting for lectures, film screenings, debate forums, workshops, artist talks and performances and much more.

The Pride Art Area Manager is a volunteer role, but is a key part of our Area Manager team that meets regularly throughout the year to conceive, plan and deliver our events.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop a project plan for the realisation of the Pride Art exhibition
  • Ensure artistic quality and diverse representation of LGBTI+ artists
  • Organising and managing volunteers from the Pride Art group and recruiting more volunteers to the group
  • Managing the budget
  • Coordinate exhibition planning in collaboration with the Pride Art group and Copenhagen Pride’s production team
  • Be an active member of our Area Manager team, attending and contributing to meetings throughout the year and liaising with our secretariat staff.

In order to fulfil the role as area manager for Pride Art, we expect you to be able to put in volunteer hours throughout the year and attend a monthly meeting with the other area managers.

During Pride Week in August, we will need you to work more hours when the Pride Art exhibition is running. You may wish to take time off from your full-time job, for which there is a budget available and a salary can be paid.

It is an advantage if you have experience with

  • Planning and organising art exhibitions or other events
  • Knowledge of LGBTI+ history in an artistic context, or experience as a practicing artist
  • Experience working in a volunteer-led organisation and managing a team of volunteers
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm and calm down in difficult situations
  • Strong commitment to LGBTI+ equality, human rights and inclusion
  • Fluent in Danish and English
