Winter Pride program launches

Copenhagen Pride today publishes the program for the eleventh edition of Winter Pride, taking place from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 February.

More than 30 events – the majority of which are free – have been announced in the program today with highlights including:

  • A screening of the multi-Oscar nominated film Emilia Pérez followed by a panel discussion on increasing trans representation in film
  • A panel discussion exploring the transformative effect that Riga Pride has had on the LGBTI+ community in Latvia over the last two decades
  • A ‘VolunQueer Fair’ where individuals interested in supporting LGBTI+ community organisations can come along and find out about the opportunities available
  • A concert featuring up-and-coming artists from the LGBTI+ community featured by Queer Music Agency
  • A workshop with colleagues from Oslo Pride talking about their international solidarity work, supporting LGBTI+ projects across Europe

Other events in the diverse program include sports, comedy, karaoke, book launch, guided walks, drag shows and a fleamarket. Program contributions come from across the LGBTI+ community including SLM København, LGBT+ Danmark, FSTB and Pan Idræt.

Chairperson of Copenhagen Pride, Benjamin Hansen, said:

“It’s easy for people to get lonely in the darker winter months and this is especially true for the LGBTI+ community, and so I am really pleased that this year’s Winter Pride program includes such a diverse mix of activities brought together by our fantastic team.”

“We are also going through darker times politically with the rise of intolerance and homotransphobia across the world. As we always have, we stand up to this, we come together, and we celebrate what binds us rather than what divides us. With Pride we are stronger and we are united.”

The theme from summer’s Pride, #withPride, continues, strengthening the message that Pride is for the whole LGBTI+ community and the biggest vehicle we have to achieve change both in Denmark and abroad. At such a critical time politically, this could not be more apt.

Copenhagen Winter Pride began in 2015 to bring the LGBTI+ community together in the cold, dark months of winter. We do this because we want to give people a break, reduce loneliness, and strengthen our community. It has become the longest-running Winter Pride in Europe, often with the largest program.

You can find the program on the Copenhagen Pride website, in the gogo app, or in Copenhagen Pride’s own app. More events are expected to be added to the program in the coming weeks.
